Have you no modesty, no maiden shame, No touch of bashfulness?
Question:
Have you no modesty, no maiden shame, No touch of bashfulness? What, will you tear. Impatient answers from my gentle tongue?
Answer.:
Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' is one of his most popular and enduring comedic plays. In this scene, Hermia and Helena are fighting over the guys they love. They are basically calling each. other names. Hermia is much shorter than Helena, so Hermia is comparing their heights. Although, the lines seem angry, they are really meant to be very funny.
This description of Hermia contradictory to the earlier description. Instead of discrediting both descriptions, though, it is helpful to see them in communication with each other. Hermia is described as dainty and fair, which may well be her public appearance, but then she is also described as sneaky, impatient and a liar, which may be her private i appearance. If a reader is to believe Helena, then Hermia is a character of two faces, with two different ways of presenting herself to the world. Perhaps she moves lightly in public, but then aggressively and quick in private.
